When you’re away from home, travel insurance gives you the peace of mind of knowing that you, your belongings and your holiday are all covered. But should you take a single policy or invest in annual travel insurance instead? There are a few questions to ask first.
How often will you travel?
This is obvious but, for many people, you may not know when you buy a policy that the first holiday won’t be the last of the year. If you know you’ve got multiple trips planned then annual is a far better choice. However, even if you have just one trip in the diary it can be a better idea to go for an annual policy as you will start to see savings with two or more trips.
Does the policy actually cover you?
Bear in mind that an annual travel insurance policy won’t be good value if it doesn’t provide the cover you need. So, for example if you have annual travel insurance that doesn’t include winter sports cover, your ski trip will need to be separately insured.
Are you travelling alone?
The differences in price and cover between family and individual policies, and single and annual policies are worth considering before making a purchase decision. Will your annual policy cover any family travelling with you or just you? Remember that joint policies split everything equally – so, if you have a family annual policy for four people then any cover is split four ways per year.
The only way to see whether single or annual travel insurance is the right choice is to use a price comparison to see which policy gives you the right cover at the right price.
