Broadband options are constantly changing with new faster, better, cheaper choices available all the time. If you want to make sure that you’re getting the best deal on broadband then it’s a good idea to keep comparing your options – and, if you find a better one, switch. Changing broadband providers is much easier these days – there’s no need for an authorisation code from your existing provider, in fact in most cases you don’t need to contact them at all.

Step 1 – find the new deal

Enter your post code into our broadband price comparison page to see what the options are for broadband where you live.

Step 2 – compare broadband

What’s your budget? Do you need superfast broadband? What other options do you want to include in the package?

Step 3 – follow the on screen instructions

If the companies that you’re switching from and to are part of the Openreach network (e.g. BT to Sky) then your incoming provider will handle everything and there is just a simple transition from one provider to the next. If not, then you will need to contact the old provider to end the contract and the new provider to agree a start date. Make sure that the end and start dates overlap so you aren’t left with a period of no internet.

Step 4 – confirmation

Once the switch is under way you’ll get a letter confirming what will happen, and when. Switching broadband provider usually takes around two weeks – if you change your mind during this period you can cancel at any time. You also have a 14 day cooling off period after the start of the new contract.
