Holidays are the one time of year when you should really be able to relax and let your hair down. However, if half way through your magical trip, the car breaks down then suddenly the heavenly break is a holiday from hell. You can’t prevent auto faults from happening but with holiday breakdown cover you can at least get it dealt with quickly and get on with your trip.
Holiday breakdown cover, what are the options?
If you’re planning a driving trip overseas then holiday breakdown cover is essential. But what should you look out for in the policy?
Areas covered – check the list of countries that are covered by the policy and make sure there are no exclusions that might affect your itinerary.
Single trip or multi? – for a summer holiday less than 30 days in length, single trip holiday breakdown cover is ideal. If you’re planning more than one driving holiday in a year then multi cover is better suited. Just remember that even multi cover will limit the length of each trip to 90 days.
What does the cover include? – it’s really important to read the small print with holiday breakdown cover. For example, does it include repatriation if the car can’t be fixed? Will you have access to an English speaking phone line at any time of the night or day? Does the policy include emergency accommodation if you have to wait for the vehicle to be fixed? Make sure you understand what you’re paying for, and that the options are broad enough for your trip.
