Moving house is one of life’s big upheavals. Making sure that you’re not cut off from the internet either before or after you move can make things much easier. When you’re moving house you have two choices: take your existing provider with you or switch broadband provider to a new service.
Staying with the same broadband provider
It may be more sensible to stay with your existing provider when you move, for example if:
- You’re only half way through a contract and leaving would incur costs
- You’re happy with the broadband service you get
- Your current provider has a good service in the area where your new home is
Switching broadband provider when you move home
If you’re not happy with the service, your old provider doesn’t offer a service for your new home or your contract is up then you could consider switching broadband when you move. If so, then there are a few considerations to bear in mind:
- Has your current provider raised their prices in the middle of your contract? If so, then you can leave without a penalty even if the contract is not up.
- Do you wish you had cable TV, phone etc in your package? If so, you might want to look at a bundle when you move.
- Which other providers offer coverage where you’re moving? Make sure you don’t jump ship before checking the options.
If you decide to switch broadband provider when you move home then call up the new provider and let them know. Depending on the provider, they may then be able to handle the whole process for you, giving you one less thing to think about during your move
