The short answer is no, British Gas is the only one to have frozen their prices for 2017 but that’s only until August. While it would be a good piece of PR if they retained the freeze after this time, we anticipate that they too will put an increase in place.
As the UK press published today, EDF will be implementing their second price increase of 2017 by the end of April meaning customers can expect a yearly price increase of £78 for their combined energy costs.
So what about the remaining four of the “Big Six”?
Big Six rival SSE said it was putting up standard bills by 6.9% , equivalent of £73 a year while E.On set out an 8.8% hike which means a £98 a year increase. These changes are due to come in from the end of April.
There have also been rises of 9.8% equalling a £109 increase per year from npower and 8% from ScottishPower resulting in an £86 jump in annual billing. These changes coming into effect in March 2017.
